WHAT IS KENT LIKE?
Kent is on the border of London and one of the home counties. It shares a border along the River Thames with Essex. There are approximately 1.6 million people living in Kent. It is the site of Canterbury Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in England, whose Archbishop heads the Church of England. It was the Catholics who built it in the 6th Century during the conversion process of St Augustine.
The Cinque Ports and Chatham Dockyard were of great importance during history as England heavily relied on them to provide warships. On clear days, you are able to see France from Folkestone and the White Cliff of Dover.
Kent is renowned cultivating a profusion of fruit and has been dubbed the “Garden of England”. It also has strong connections to London. Furthermore, it hosts the North Downs and The High Wield which are both areas of outstanding natural beauty.
